Traveling To and From the Airport

Getting From the Terminal to the Light Rail Station

Getting between the Commons Hotel and the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport is extremely easy. The Minneapolis-Saint Paul area has a
light rail system that connects the Twin Cities to each other, the airport , and the Mall of America . While at the airport, look for signs for “Ground Transportation/Light Rail Transit”

If you arrive in at Terminal 1-Lindbergh, the light rail station is below the Blue and Red parking ramps; you must take the tram from baggage claim to the light rail station.

Taking the Light Rail to the University of Minnesota
The fare for the light rail system varies based on the time of day. From 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM, Monday through Friday (i.e., during rush hours), a trip on the light rail costs $2.25; the light rail costs $1.75 all other times. You can buy a ticket at the light rail stations. Metro Transit has a nice how-to page describing how to use their ticket vending machines. A single ticket is valid for unlimited rides on any light rail train, METRO bus, or local bus in the region in any direction for two and a half (2 1/2 ) hours. Extra fare is required for express busses and the Northstar Train . To get to the University of Minnesota from the airport, you only need to take the light rail.

Once you have your ticket, go down to the platform level. Board a Blue Line train towards Minneapolis/
Target Field Station ; trains will arrive on the left-hand side of the platform facing away from the stairs. The Blue Line approximately every 10 minutes during the week and every 15 minutes during evenings and on weekends. The Blue Line runs from about 4:00 AM to 2:00 AM every day. Take the Blue Line to the Downtown East Station in Minneapolis.

At the Downtown East Station, cross the tracks at the ends of the platform and wait for a Green Line train to St. Paul/Union Depot. If you are still within your 2
1/2 hour limit, you do not need to buy another ticket. Take the Green Line to the East Bank Station. The Green Line runs approximately every 10 minutes during the week, every 15 minutes during evenings and on weekends, and every hour overnight. The Green Line runs 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
